GOLD Coast coach Stuart Dew has some simple advice for Tom Lynch when dealing with questions about his future – be yourself.

Lynch is the hottest free agent target on the market, and the Suns' co-captain has already indicated he's in no rush to make a decision.

Unlike his fellow co-captain Steven May, Lynch is not the most natural public speaker, but Dew told AFL.com.au the 25-year-old just had to keep things simple.

"The most important part is that he's himself," Dew said.

"If he's himself, he'll be fine. When he thinks he has to be a certain way, for anyone, that's when you start to look uncomfortable."

Lynch is due to face journalists on Thursday afternoon at the AFL Captains Day in Melbourne, where his future will be a hot topic.

Dew said he was "comfortable" with Lynch's contract and felt no need to discuss it with the star forward.

"The club, myself, Tom and his management, all four parties are really comfortable," Dew said.

"In terms of it being a distraction, it's not. It'll play out in time.

"Members and media and opposition supporters are keen to know what'll happen but unfortunately for them, it's going to take time.

"I understand the fascination with the captain of a footy club. The fact I understand it, it doesn't bother me."

Since coming in as a new coach five months ago, Dew said he could not have been more impressed by Lynch's attitude and work ethic.

The quietly-spoken forward was named captain alongside May for a second straight year last month.

"One thing I like about Tom in meetings is he doesn’t talk for the sake of talking, but when he does talk the whole group listens," Dew said.

"There's nothing worse than someone that just keeps talking. When he says something, he means it and the whole playing group knows it."
