WHEN Lachie Weller returns to play former club Fremantle on Saturday, it's little surprise who he expects to get the most chat from.

"Hayden Ballantyne for sure. I'll love to see what he has," Weller laughed.

Weller spent three seasons with the Dockers, playing 47 games, before requesting a trade to Gold Coast, where he spent many of his teenage years.

When he runs out against Fremantle, the 22-year-old will not just be playing against his former club, but also playing his 50th game.

"I'm really excited. It'll be good to see a few of the boys, but it's just another game of football," he said.

"It'll be a bit of fun, good to see them out there and see what chirp they throw at me."

Weller said through the middle of the week there had been no banter, just Freo players asking him to lunch.

Playing Fremantle will be the first of back-to-back games in Perth for the Suns, who will stay in the West Australian capital for 10 days.

Weller said his move to Gold Coast had been seamless, even to the point of new coach Stuart Dew sharing some traits with his Freo mentor Ross Lyon.

"I think Stuey's message, he's harping on defence a lot, and coming from Fremantle they're quite a defensive team," he said.

"It's been good for my transition because I feel like I know a fair bit already in that department.

"I think they're similar messages.

"I've settled in. it's pretty easy around here, a good tight group. We're playing some good football and it's a nice place to be around."

It'll be even nicer for Weller if he beats the old team at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
