PORT Adelaide midfielder Willem Drew will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his right heel.

The 19-year-old has struggled with the injury through the start of the year before he played in Port Adelaide's round six SANFL game against Norwood.

However, his movement was restricted and it was decided surgery was the best course of action.

"We've been managing his injury since late in the pre-season," Port Adelaide's head of high performance Ian McKeown told pafc.com.au.

"It got to the stage where he was able to play for the Magpies against Norwood (in round six).

"He wasn’t at risk of doing any further damage but didn’t have the freedom of movement he needed, so we made the decision to operate.

"This way he’ll be fit and ready to go for the start of pre-season training at the end of this year."

Drew was the 33rd overall pick of the 2016 NAB AFL Draft from the North Ballarat Rebels.

He is yet to make his AFL debut and is uncontracted for next season.

Meanwhile, Power forward Aidyn Johnson will be sidelined for another one to two weeks with a groin injury.

Johnson, 20, has played two games for the Power this season, most recently in their round seven loss to West Coast at Optus Stadium.
