A THIRD-generation Ablett could be on its way to Geelong with superstar Gary Ablett and wife Jordan revealing they are expecting their first baby.
Ablett took to social media on Wednesday night to announce the news the couple had kept in private for more than two months.
A pair of baby shoes and a jumper were posted alongside Ablett's No.4 guernsey and his father Gary Ablett snr's No.5, made famous in a glittering career at Kardinia Park.
"We're both excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. It's hard to put into words just how happy we are," Gary and Jordan said.
"We've known this for a few months now but decided that we wanted to keep it between just the two of us and our families for as long as we could."
Whether the pair are expecting a boy or girl remains a mystery, however the Cats now have a pathway for both, with a Geelong AFLW team to enter the competition in 2019.
Under current father-son rules, a boy would be eligible to join Geelong or Gold Coast, with Ablett playing more than 100 games at both clubs.
AFLW rules state a minimum one-game requirement to be drafted by the chosen club – with the Suns to welcome an AFLW team in 2020.
Last weekend Ablett played his 204th match in his first season back for the Cats after 110 games for the Suns between 2011 and 2017.
Ablett said Jordan had kept the news to herself before telling him after Geelong's win over Collingwood at the MCG in round eight.
"Jordan already knew but waited a little while to tell me because she knows how much I love surprises and wanted to tell me on my birthday (May 14)," Ablett told exclusiveinsight.com.au.
"It was the day after a game and we were staying at Crown.
"She knows that the way to my heart is through NBA, so she gave me a box that said, ‘Introducing the Greatest Recruit of All Time’.
"I had no idea what it was and when I opened it, inside was the tiniest Michael Jordan onesie, a little beanie and little runners."
Ablett will run out against Melbourne on Saturday night at GMHBA Stadium, a venue where he shares a terrace that carries his and his father's name.
