ESSENDON swingman Mitch Brown has signed a one-year contract extension with the club, tying him to Tullamarine until the end of 2019.

Brown, who is capable of playing either end of the ground, impressed up forward this year, kicking 18 goals from his 14 games.

The 28-year-old was originally signed as a top-up player for the 2016 season after 15 games for Geelong.

He has now played 54 AFL games.

"I'm excited to sign on with the Bombers, we have an impressive list and I believe we are building towards something special," Brown said.

"I am looking forward to building on the back end of the year that I had and continuing to add to my game.

"I believe we have set a solid foundation for a successful 2019 and beyond."

Essendon's list and recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro said Brown thoroughly deserved his contract.

"He had a fantastic season where he kicked 18 goals and has become a really valued member of our team," Dodoro said.

"Mitch really stood up this season and showed tremendous leadership."
