DANIEL MENZEL has found a new home with the former Geelong forward signing with Sydney as a delisted free agent.

Menzel's decision to briefly return from a holiday in the US to undergo a medical with the Swans paid off after being signed to a one-year deal on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old played 73 games for Geelong, kicking 136 goals, after overcoming four knee reconstructions, but was not offered a new deal for 2019.

"I'm really thankful and excited at the opportunity the Swans have given me and I'm looking forward to getting into the club and training with my new teammates," Menzel said.

"Success is obviously a real motivator and the Swans were really appealing to me for that reason."

Since arriving at the footy club back in 2010, it has been an incredible journey and although with a fair share of ups and downs, I will always try and find the positives in any situation and there certainly are a lot of them. I can’t thank the people at the @geelongcats enough for helping me develop as a person and overcome many challenges. I will certainly miss my teammates and many friends at the footy club. To the fans and everyone who has supported me, I never expected the amount of goodwill you sent my way and I will never forget that through the tough times, you are the ones who helped pick me up. So thankyou! I am really excited and optimistic about what lies ahead with the @sydneyswans and look forward to the next challenge.

INDICATIVE DRAFT ORDER Your club's latest picks

Sydney head of football Charlie Gardiner said Menzel would fit in well with the team's forward line, where he will line up alongside Lance Franklin.

Menzel kicked 27 goals from 13 games in 2018 despite missing a large chunk of the season after an adverse reaction to an injection in his groin.

The deal means Menzel and former Swan Gary Rohan have effectively swapped places, with Rohan crossing to Kardinia Park for pick No.61 during the NAB AFL Trade Period. Both are mercurial forwards with the ability to break a game open if on song.

"Dan is a great talent and a proven performer at senior level with Geelong. He brings a wealth of footy experience to our group and we are confident he can add real value to our squad," Gardiner said.

"Dan has shown tremendous character to work through his injury challenges in his career to date and has shown in his past three seasons that he's still got a lot to offer at senior level. We hope that a change of scene and a new environment will only strengthen his football.

"Dan will add to our attack and our scoring ability and has a lot to offer our team and our young and emerging forwards."
