PORT Adelaide star Robbie Gray has been ruled out of next week's realestate.com.au AFLX tournament with knee soreness.

The 30-year-old will also miss the Power's intraclub game this Friday, but he remains a chance to play in the club's JLT Community Series opener against Adelaide in Port Pirie on March 2.

Power midfielder Tom Rockliff will be Gray's replacement for AFLX, at the request of Bolts captain Patrick Dangerfield.

AFLX RULES Get ready for 20-point supergoals

"Rob's pretty close, they just want to get a little bit more conditioning into him before he goes into games, especially against opposition," Rockliff said.

"He's done a fair bit of match simulation out here.

"With Robbie going out, we needed someone else to go in and I certainly didn't get picked for my pace, I know that, but it's a good concept and something you can take all around the world.

"All the players are really looking forward to it and it shows off our great game in a different concept."

Gray trained away from the main group at Alberton Oval on Wednesday morning, working on core exercises and sudden, sharp movements.

The four-time All Australian was the Power's leading goal-kicker last season with 36 goals, while also averaging 20.9 disposals and 4.1 clearances per game.

Gray is the third player to withdraw from the AFLX event at Marvel Stadium on Friday, February 22, following former teammate Chad Wingard (calf) and Melbourne defender Steven May (hamstring).

Exciting Gold Coast talent Jack Martin replaced Wingard while Fremantle defender Joel Hamling is also hurt and will miss for Deadly, with his spot taken by Dockers teammate Nathan Wilson.
