THE FACEBOOK user at the centre of a crude social media post targeted at Hawthorn star Jarryd Roughead is not a Carlton member.

The post, which was widely condemned on social media, came during the Hawks' come-from-behind, five-point victory over Carlton on Sunday.

AFL.com.au has chosen not to mention the contents of the post.

The Blues confirmed in a statement on Monday morning the person was not a member or in the club's database, restricting their ability to hand out any punishment.

"We absolutely condemn abuse and online trolling of any kind, and this behaviour has no room in our game," the Carlton statement read.

"These comments were disgusting and do not hold any place in society.

"Our club will not stand for this behaviour and remains committed to holding such distasteful actions to account."

Hawthorn also issued a statement late on Sunday night, attributed to club chief executive Justin Reeves.

"We've become aware of comments made on social media about Jarryd Roughead during today's game," Reeves said.

"This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will never be tolerated by the Hawthorn Football Club.

"No person should ever be subjected to taunts, especially about issues as personal as this.

"As a club, we are fully behind all of our players and will continue to make a stand against this toxic behaviour."

Meanwhile, the Facebook user whose profile the post appeared on has denied writing the post.

"Apparently someone has used my name or photoshopped my profile onto a post about Jarryd Roughead," the user wrote on social media.

"I have no idea what's going on or what's actually happened, but I can categorically say, I did not write that post."

"Whether it's a photoshop or someone has logged into my account, I don't know. I'm trying to work it out but I'm struggling to get anywhere. Any help would be great."
