COLLINGWOOD has confirmed star forward Jordan De Goey is en route to Germany to consult a world-renowned hamstring injury specialist as the Magpies explore every avenue to have their matchwinner fit for another crack at a premiership.

De Goey had spent five weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury near the tendon before straining the muscle in the opening seconds of his return game in the Pies' qualifying final win over Geelong at the MCG on Friday night.

On Sunday night, the 23-year-old boarded a flight for Germany where he will be assessed by Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, the Bayern Munich football club head doctor who has treated international sporting superstars such as Usain Bolt, Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Jordan.

It's highly unlikely De Goey will be passed fit to play in the preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday week (September 21), but he will hope to recover in time for the Grand Final, if the Pies progress that far.

De Goey's hamstrung teammates Jamie Elliott and Darcy Moore made the same trip last November and were treated by the doctor known as 'Healing Hans'. Both players have since made strong inroads and starred in the 10-point victory over the Cats.

Another teammate, veteran Ben Reid, also benefited from meeting with Dr Muller-Wohlfahrt in 2015.

"Anything that can reasonably assist and expedite Jordy's recovery is worth exploring," Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said.

De Goey led Collingwood's goalkicking with 48 goals in 21 games last year, including 12 in four finals, following it up with 34 majors in 16 appearances this year while spending considerable time in the midfield.
