COLLINGWOOD midfielder Dayne Beams returned to training on Tuesday after overcoming a bout of gastro.

Beams missed his team's return to work on Monday after falling ill during a break in Bali over the Christmas/New Year period.

The 2012 Copeland Trophy winner was one of several Pies to suffer from "Bali belly" over the break.

Star forward Travis Cloke was reported to have lost three kilograms due to the stomach bug, but is also back at training, albeit on a slightly restricted program.

Like Cloke, Beams spent his first day back in the gym doing strength work.

"He (Beams) did a little bit which means his strength is improving, so you’d imagine by the end of the week, he'd be back to full fitness and join training," Collingwood football manager Rodney Eade told the club's website.

Beams had to wait until round 16 to feature for the Pies in 2013, after missing first half of the season because of a quadriceps injury.

Eade gave updates on a number of Pies who were injured last season or are returning from post-season operations.

Among them, Clinton Young appears to have overcome his injury troubles and is training solidly, while Dane Swan has started 2014 in good shape following post-season surgery.

"Dane underwent wrist surgery at the end of last season, and yesterday marked the first time he's touched the ball since then," Eade said.

"He's been able to do running, and has come back in pretty good shape. He's looked the best he has in a long time."

Meanwhile, the Pies are in no hurry to rush Alex Fasolo back into the full training.

Fasolo's 2013 ended in round five due to surgery for a navicular stress fracture.

"He's made steady progress and we’re not fast tracking him at all," Eade said of the 21-year-old forward.

"We're just going to take our time with it, but he’s ticked every box so far, so we’re pleased with his progress."
