MICHAEL Voss wants to win the NAB Cup and his Brisbane Lions are in a good position to do just that after round one of the pre-season competition.

The Lions hold top spot on the NAB Cup ladder after defeating Hawthorn and Gold Coast on Saturday night.

With the top two teams qualifying for the final (to be played on March 15 or 16), Voss' men can put themselves in the box seat with a win over Greater Western Sydney this weekend.

They would then face Collingwood, also undefeated after round one and playing West Coast in Perth on Sunday, for a place in the decider.

The other two unbeaten teams of round one, Carlton and North Melbourne, can keep their pre-season title claims strong with wins in round two.

The Blues, under new coach Mick Malthouse, face Fremantle at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, and finish with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in round three.

North faces the Suns in Townsville this week, and then Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

At the other end of the table sit 2012 grand finalists the Sydney Swans and the Hawks, ranked 17th and 16th respectively after emerging winless on the weekend.

But right in the middle of the ladder is a much more familiar sight: Richmond, ranked ninth.
