ST KILDA moved on from the sacking of coach Scott Watters on Wednesday morning, with the club's first to fourth year players returning to Seaford for day one of pre-season training.

Five days after Watters' two-year tenure came to an end, the Saints began their preparations for 2014 without a senior coach and with assistant and development positions still to be finalised.

Newly appointed high performance manager Adam Basil steered the players through their first session one week after he was announced in the role.

The 2004 Olympic sprinter replaced Bill Davoren, who departed for Collingwood after 12 months at the club.

Key defender Josh Bruce, who joined the club in a trade from Greater Western Sydney, trained with his new teammates for the first time in the running and skills session.

As on-field preparations begin, the Saints have set up a six-person committee to identify their next coach, chaired by head of football Chris Pelchen.

Club board members Andrew Thompson and Danni Roche join recently retired Saint Jason Blake, former Geelong premiership captain Tom Harley and consultant psychologist Matti Clements on the panel.

The club has also recently lost assistant coach Dean Laidley, who joined Carlton, and development coach Jaymie Graham, who returned to Perth and has been appointed at West Coast.

The Saints are hoping to appoint a senior coach before the full playing list returns to pre-season training on November 18.
