SUMMARY
Neither side has any (realistic) hope of featuring in finals, but that doesn't mean this clash lacks any significance. The Kangaroos lost their fifth game by less than a goal last week and will be desperately seeking retribution against the Demons. Melbourne is more settled and greatly improved under interim coach Neil Craig, but could not quite overcome the Brisbane Lions in Darwin. Much will depend on North Melbourne's mindset. After a series of close losses, can the Roos front up and take it to the Demons? You would expect Brad Scott's men to make a strong statement, although, on exposed form, Melbourne will not get a better opportunity to cause a major boilover.

THE SIX POINTS
1. Melbourne and North Melbourne last clashed in round 18 last season, at Etihad Stadium, with the Kangaroos winning by a comfortable 54 points. Drew Petrie and Robbie Tarrant both kicked four goals in the win.

2. The Kangaroos have never lost to the Demons at Etihad Stadium, from six matches, with three wins by more than 50 points.

3. The Roos have dominated the Demons of recent times, winning the past 10 contests (dating back to 2006), including four wins by eight goals or more.

4. Melbourne has lost its past 14 games at Etihad Stadium, not tasting success since defeating the Western Bulldogs in round 19, 2007.

5. Colin Garland, Melbourne's No. 1 defender according to the Official AFL Player Rankings, is unlikely to be fit for the clash with the Kangaroos because of an ankle concern.

6.  Melbourne sits in last place in terms of scoring, averaging just 68 points per game in 2013. Meanwhile, North is ranked fifth with 103 points per match.
