MELBOURNE coach Mark Neeld has deflected questions over speculation of his future at the Demons, preferring to discuss the club's blueprint for success in the future.

The Demons have just one win to their name after seven rounds of the AFL season, and face one of their toughest propositions in Richmond on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.

Speaking on Saturday morning, Neeld said the club needed to continue on the course it set when he took over as coach in 2012.

"You can't block it all out. It is what it is," Neeld said of the pressure placed on him.

"We've got a real clear understanding of where we're at and we've got a really clear vision of where we want to get to and how we're going to get there.

"We know that we're assembling a really good young player list to get us there."

Neeld said the club's plan of building from the bottom up would take between three to five years to complete.

"There's no short term fix, it's a long term fix. We're doing exactly what everyone said the football club needed to do two to three years ago," he said.

The Demons coach spoke of the need for fans to remain patient, as the club's youngsters continue to develop.

Neeld said research had found premiership teams were made up of players with an average of 110 games of experience.

The Demons will have 13 players under 50 games running out against the Tigers on Sunday.

To put it in perspective though, ladder-leaders Geelong will have nine players with less than 50 games experience in its clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday night.

However, Neeld said the club has seven of its first choice selected players out – including injured forward Mitch Clark and suspended midfielder Colin Sylvia.

Melbourne had 100 ineffective tackles against the Suns last week and Neeld said the club had strongly addressed the "combative" side of the game ahead of the clash with the Tigers.

"The group get themselves up. They're young AFL professional footballers, who are really keen to get out there and show some A-grade effort."
