MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey said footy fans in Casey will be treated to a couple of teams 'having a real crack' on Saturday when the Demons take on the Western Bulldogs.

The NAB Challenge fixture at Casey Fields will be the final hit-out for both clubs before their respective round one clashes in the season proper, and Bailey said Melbourne will be playing its best side available.

"The Doggies are going to be a fantastic challenge for us," he said at Casey on Tuesday.

"We'll still test a few players out and will try and pick our best 24 that are fit and healthy.

"We were hoping to play a NAB Cup (Challenge) game here (at Casey) and it's against what most people would see as a top-four team – the Bulldogs.

"It's going to be a really good opportunity for us to see where we're at with the 24 or 25 we pick, so we're going to have a real crack on the weekend."

As far as individuals for the fans to pick out on Saturday, Bailey singled out ruckman John Meesan as one player who needed to put in another strong performance to push for selection in round one against North Melbourne.

In NAB Challenge games against the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans, the 22-year-old former Crow stood out and looks a good chance to add to his two AFL appearances.

Bailey added that choosing Melbourne's best line-up was a difficult task at the moment, considering the team is relatively healthy.

"There is a little bit of belief building, which is fantastic and we've got 30 players to pick from, I would think, who are going to push for selection [in round one].

"That's a real problem for us (the coaches), but it's a great situation to be in and we weren't in that situation at all last year.

"There is a lot of internal pressure on them [players] to perform and we hope that that'll get the best out of them."

He also said Jack Grimes, Kyle Cheney and Neville Jetta were all pushing for selection as round one draws closer.
