HIGHLY regarded Port Adelaide high performance manager Darren Burgess has reportedly agreed to join English Premier League giant Arsenal.

News Corp reports Burgess will leave the Power next month to oversee Arsenal's high performance program.

Burgess has had two separate tenures at Port Adelaide spanning just over eight years.

He was most recently recruited to the Power from another EPL giant, Liverpool, where he spent a little under two-and-a-half years as head of fitness and conditioning.

He first joined Port Adelaide in October 2004 as head fitness coach, working at Alberton for over three years.

The fitness guru rejoined the club in October 2012 to coincide with the arrival of coach Ken Hinkley, becoming the highest-paid high performance manager in the AFL.

Burgess's contract with the Power was due to expire at the end of next year.

His long CV also includes three years as head of fitness at Football Federation Australia until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Burgess also worked on the Fox Footy reality program The Recruit, which last year saw Matthew Eagles taken by the Brisbane Lions.
