The Port Adelaide Football Club has received one nomination for a position on its Board of Directors, meaning there will not be a member election in 2011.

The club called for nominations on Saturday 29 October 2011, with the nomination period closing at 5pm on Monday 14 November.

Bruce Abernethy re-nominated for his position and with no other names put forward, the Board will recommend to the SA Football Commission that he be appointed to a further term of three years, as of the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 15 December 2011.

It will be a third term for Mr Abernethy, who was first elected by members as a Director in 2005 before being reappointed in 2008.

Meanwhile, the SA Football Commission has approved the appointment of Trevor Thiele as a Director of the Port Adelaide Football Club, following the resignation of John Firth.

Mr Thiele served as an alternate Director on Mr Firth’s behalf during much of 2011. Mr Firth was granted a leave of absence to focus fully on the demands of his career as a barrister, including a complicated and lengthy court case he has been briefed on. Mr Firth has now resigned his position.

The Board thanks Mr Firth for his more than three decades of service to the Port Adelaide Football Club. Mr Firth first served as the club’s League Tribunal Advocate in 1975 and has since held many positions, earning Life Membership in 1987.

Members are invited to the Port Adelaide Football Club ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING at The Port Club, Queen St Alberton, from 7pm on Thursday 15 December. Please note that The Port Club AGM will start at 6.30pm.

The AGM will include the statutory requirements of this formal meeting of the Port Adelaide Football Club (AFL and SANFL), along with updates from the President, CEO and both the AFL and SANFL football departments on 2012.
