A STUNNING individual performance from Steele Sidebottom has propelled the Murray Bushrangers to an emphatic 81-point win over the Dandenong Stingrays in Friday night's TAC Cup grand final.

Sidebottom, 17, was easily the best player on the ground with his 10-goal, 32-possession performance a major factor in the 21.16 (142) to 9.7 (61) win under the roof at Telstra Dome.

The 182cm AFL player-in-waiting spent the majority of his time up forward with stints on the ball and looked equally at ease when kicking on either his natural right or his left foot.

His goals came from a wide range of angles from both set shots and intelligent play under pressure. Sidebottom booted nine straight before missing four shots, but his 10th major finally came just three minutes before the final siren.

From Congupna, near Shepparton in Victoria's north, Sidebottom will have considerably boosted his chances of being taken in the top 10 of November’s NAB AFL Draft with the powerhouse display.

He impressed in all facets of the game. He was strong overhead, showed good football smarts, kicked goals from long range and snapped them from in close off both feet, tackled and smothered to put his name right under AFL talent scouts' noses.

The Bushrangers had winners all over the ground on their way to their second TAC Cup premiership after finishing runners-up to the Calder Cannons last year.

Tom Rockliff, named on a half-forward flank in the TAC Cup team of the year, was important early with three goals in three minutes at the start of the second quarter and finished with four majors.

Jack Ziebell, also a member of the TAC Cup Team of the Year and touted as a potential top-10 pick in the national draft, was important without dominating from centre half-forward.

Dylan McNeill, Jamie Sheahan, Caleb Tiller, Sam Wright and Kade Klemke, all of whom are off to Canberra for next week's NAB AFL Draft Camp, were all prominent in the awesome display from Phil Bunn's team.

Steven Gaertner caught the eye for the Stingrays, with the 198cm beanpole damaging when playing on the wing and acquitting himself well in the ruck.

Chris Doria, with four goals, and Aaron Purves were also prominent in a disappointing day for Graeme Yeats' side.

The Stingrays managed the first two goals of the match to lead by 11 points early, but the Bushrangers fired off the next five majors to hold a 21-point lead at the first change.

Doria snagged his second to cut the lead early in the second term, but Rockliff's purple patch saw the Murray side increase the margin to 35 points at half time.

The Stingrays attempted a comeback early in the third quarter with goals to Matthew Clark and Gaertner keeping their hopes alive, but the Bushrangers were not to be denied and accelerated away to an imposing 62-point break at three-quarter time.

With the result of the match not in doubt, all interest in the final term was centred on Sidebottom's march to double figures.

He made the crowd wait, but they were in full voice when he finally managed to slide through his 10th from a set shot in the 24th minute to put the cherry on top of a virtuoso performance.
