FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey says dumping utility Dean Solomon from the side for one week for unprofessional behaviour is part of an education process for his young side.

Solomon is the second Fremantle player to be dropped in three weeks for not meeting team expectations.

Harvey suggested the rules at Fremantle might be tougher than those in place at other AFL clubs.

Solomon has been dropped for Sunday's clash with Carlton after a night of drinking, while Brett Peake was dropped for a similar breach two weeks ago.

Harvey said his club's hardline stance was part of an education process for his players.

"Sometimes individuals will step over the line and with a young group we need to point them in the right direction. This is another example of that," Harvey said from Subiaco Oval on Thursday.

"We're trying to educate them through the best way to prepare to become an elite team."

Harvey wouldn't discuss the team's drinking rules, but said the club's decision to let Solomon stay in Melbourne after the side's loss to Collingwood was for other reasons.

"In the end it comes down to the individual and what he thinks is going to get him to the elite level regularly and get the best out of himself," the coach said.

Harvey said he was yet to decide if Solomon would play in the WAFL with what the coach described as a "rumbling knee".

He said the match committee was down to 26-27 players to choose from and, with Mathew Pavlich (quad) also ruled out, would look to bring some big bodies in to face the Blues.

Inclusions Daniel Gilmore, Kepler Bradley, Adam Campbell and Ryan Murphy fit that bill, while midfielder Clayton Hinkley has also come into the squad of 25.
