There’s no denying that West Coast stars Josh Kennedy and Luke Shuey are two very talented individuals, but last week it was their turn to sit in awe and be impressed - by the talents of an elephant.

Kennedy and Shuey visited Perth Zoo and had a special up-close encounter with Tricia, who possesses some very impressive artistic skills.

As part of the zoo’s enrichment program to keep its elephants stimulated, healthy and happy, Tricia and the other elephants enjoy painting sessions using water and vegetable-based non-toxic paints.

These paintings prove to be popular items, with one of Tricia’s artworks sold at the recent West Coast Eagles Gala Auction as one of the main auction items.

Tricia is just as excited about the upcoming finals series as we are and used her trunk to hold the paintbrush and creates striking canvas prints in her favourite colours - blue and gold.

Kennedy and Shuey looked on as Tricia created one of her artworks, and they were undoubtedly astounded by an elephant’s ability to create these remarkable pieces.

You can visit Tricia at Perth Zoo, 20 Labouchere Road, South Perth and buy your own piece of Ele Art from the Perth Zoo shop.

Funds raised from the sale of Ele Art go towards Perth Zoo’s breeding and conservation programs, as well as animal management.
