ADELAIDE football manager John Reid says he's quietly confident forward Kurt Tippett will resist the lure of heading home to the Gold Coast and remain at West Lakes beyond next season.

Tippett, 22, has signed with the Crows until the end of 2010, when the league's newest team will be granted unprecedented access to uncontracted players across the country.

The 201cm Queenslander has enjoyed a breakout season this year, kicking 51 goals in 23 games, and will undoubtedly be a target of the new Gold Coast franchise.

Tippett has put off contract talks until the end of the season, but Reid said he was optimistic the emerging star would re-sign with the club.

"I haven't sat down with Kurt, his management or his father on that issue, but I'm quietly confident [he'll stay]," Reid said on Tuesday.

"Kurt seems very happy here. He's a major player in our football club and will be for some years to come. I can't give you a definite answer. I'd love to be able to, but we'll work that out at the end of the season."

Tippett bought a house in Adelaide earlier this year, but his girlfriend remains on the Gold Coast.

Reid said he was hopeful mateship and the promise of success would keep the competitive big man in the city of churches.

"These lads [Tippett, David Mackay, Patrick Dangerfield and David Mackay] have come through together over the last two or three years," Reid said.

"When you do that you grow up together and it's like when you lived at home and knocked around with the kids on the same block. That bond stays with you for life and I think it's a bit like that with these lads."

The Crows will also wait until the end of their finals' campaign to decide the futures of star veterans Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod, Tyson Edwards and Brett Burton.

The club is yet to put anything in writing to any of the fab four, but Reid said each had made a reasonable claim on a contract for next year.

"All four have had more than serviceable seasons. Macca's second half has been very, very good. Simon has been good all year and Tyson's been steady. With Brett coming back into the team we know that whatever we get out of him next year, we'd expect to get more after going through a full pre-season," Reid said.

"I think all four are strong candidates to be considered for next year, but footy's a funny game. Hopefully, we've got a couple more weeks to go and you never know what happens. Just take this scenario, if we finished top it might change someone's mind [about playing on].

"The group has decided that the right time to discuss this is when the season has finished."
