Two long-serving members of the Brisbane Lions family were inducted as Life Members of the Club at the 2011 Club Champion Dinner.

Recently retired Premiership ruckman Jamie Charman and former board member David Liddy were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the Club, and joined the other 261 Life Members of the Lions.

To qualify for Life Membership, an individual must serve a minimum of ten years and have made an outstanding contribution to the Club.

A player must have been with the Club for ten seasons and have played at least 150 senior games.

While both Charman and Liddy technically fell short of fulfilling parts of the criteria (Liddy having served the Club for seven years, and Charman playing just 129 senior matches), a clause exists for exceptional circumstances - and the Lions Board rightfully agreed that both Charman’s and Liddy’s contributions to the Club were too significant to let pass.

Jamie Charman

Charman is the fifth current Lions player to be inducted as a Life Member, and played for the Lions for eleven seasons before hanging up the boots in 2011.

“This has honestly blown me away - I wasn’t expecting Life Membership at all.”

“This means something very very special to me.”

“I’ve met some amazing people along the way and I’ve got some great friendships and memories.”

“I know the last couple of years I’ve had my injuries but I have to say, it’s only good memories that I think about today.”

“I’d like to say thank you to the Club for your patience and persistence over the years - you’ve been fantastic.”

“The Brisbane Lions are my family and I’m proud to be a one-Club player.”

David Liddy

Liddy served on the Lions Board from October 2003 until the end of 2010. He was the CEO of the Lions’ Major Sponsor, BOQ, from 2001 until his retirement earlier this year.

“To say that I’m honoured to be inducted as a Life Member is a massive understatement.”

“The Lions and BOQ have been the best part of my last ten years.”

“I’m passionate about the Brisbane Lions, I’m passionate about the values of our Club, and going forward, the successes that we’ve had, and no doubt the successes that we’ll continue to have under Vossy and the leadership group that we’ve got.”

“I’m very proud this evening - I didn’t play 150 games and I didn’t get to ten years, but thank you very much.”

“It’s a real privilege.”
