A common theme has become glaringly obvious each week when analysing the Brisbane Lions’ individual AFL Dream Team scores.

Dream Team points are formulated so that the game’s most influential players (that is, those players who collect the most disposals, take the most marks, kick the most goals or lay the most tackles) are rewarded with the greatest scores.

While AFL Dream Team points do not necessarily provide a 100% accurate reflection of a player’s performance, those players whose scores are consistently among the team’s best are generally hard to ignore.

That is the case at the Brisbane Lions with Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff, Simon Black and Matthew Leuenberger regularly among the top handful of Lions scorers each week.

It’s no coincidence that the same four players occupy the top four positions on the Club’s AFL Dream Team rankings.

Rockliff (second overall in the Lions’ AFL Dream Team rankings) was the team’s highest scorer in Round 20 with 138 points after collecting a career-best 34 disposals and kicking a goal. He was one of four players to reach 100 points in Round 20 along with Redden and Leuenberger while Black finished just four points shy with 96 points.

Rarely this season would you find any member of this impressive quartet not among the Lions’ top players each week.

The only other player to score over 100 points last Sunday against Adelaide was forward/ruckman Mitch Clark who backed up his best-on-ground effort against the Crows from back in Round 10 with another solid performance.

Meanwhile, the Lions’ AFL Dream Team competition is still up for grabs with four teams in with a chance.

Josh’s ‘bradpitt FC’ has maintained the lead for another week ahead of ‘The Blowtorch’ who has moved into second place ahead of ‘Spaceballs’. But you can’t discount Nathan’s ‘albertproud ftw’ in the final four rounds either considering he is only 267 points off first place.

Congratulations also to Scully’s ‘rAnDOM1zzz3d’ whose score of 2,517 in Round 20 was the highest of any registered team in the Lion’s League. Scully has also moved into the top five overall.
