Box Hill Hawks v Geelong
Sunday 6 September
TEAC Oval at 1.10pm

The VFL lights up this weekend at TEAC Oval with Box Hill set to take on Geelong in the 1st Elimination Final.

Box Hill will be strengthened with the return of many Hawthorn listed players with the likes of Josh Kennedy, Shane Savage, Riley Milne and Beau Muston all available for selection.

Sam Iles and Haydn Kiel after suffering a corked thigh and a wrist injury respectively against Casey will be raring to go this weekend, while Co-Captain Steve Kenna is set to return to the fray after straining a hamstring muscle against Bendigo Bombers.

Kenna again will add great leadership to the Hawks outfit and exhilarating pace with pleasing work so far on the training track, with the Hawks final session the key to his return hopefully getting through strongly.

Geelong will be a great test for the Hawks with Captain James Podsiadly to return after resting the last two weeks out due to an ankle injury.

Lachlan McQueen-Miscamble, Podsiadly’s likely match-up will look to restrict the Geelong Captain who’s already scored 64 goals for the season.

Having already tamed Werribee VFL goal kicking legend in Nicholas Sautner, McQueen-Miscamble after a strong season will look to add Podsiadly to his books with the Hawks backline including Co-Captain Lukas Markovic the general in defence vital in the Hawks breakdown of the Geelong attack.

Coming off a five-game winning streak the Hawks have the momentum after Geelong failed last weekend to capitalise against Collingwood losing by 38 points.

Box Hill last tasted VFL Finals action in 2005 under then Coach Andy Collins and Captain Clinton Alleway and after four years wait, the Hawks again have their chance to plant and make a statement for the VFL flag.

While Geelong come off a memorable last VFL Finals experience when in 2007 the side won the VFL Premiership after defeating Coburg Tigers in the VFL Grand Final at MC Labour Park (Visy Park).

Last time these to sides played in Round 12 2009, Geelong won by 53 points at Skilled Stadium.
