Over 85,000 supporters fronted the cold Melbourne night to watch a superior Collingwood side comfortably dispose of Carlton by 54 points at the MCG; 14.10 (94) to 4.16 (40).

The Magpies rocketed to a five-goal lead after the first term, out playing the highly praised Blue midfield.  It was then a stalemate for the next two quarters, both teams trading goals until the Magpies kicked six goals to one in the final term.

Leon Davis was one of the Magpies’ best on the night, kicking three goals including two goal of the year contenders, while racking up 28 possessions.

“It was an important win for the club at this point in the season,” Davis told CTV in the rooms after the match.

“After a loss to Hawthorn last week, we knew we had to come out this week and try to get a win.”

While the Magpies didn’t threaten the scoreboard in the second and third term, Davis was impressed with the way his team closed out the match in the final quarter.

“Being rivalry round we knew it was going to be hot at the start so we knew we had to come out and hit them head on.

“But it was good to come back and come over the top of them like we did.”

Davis kicked two miraculous goals in the first half, both majors brought supporters from both sides to their feet.

“I like entertaining the crowd.  I always like kicking a good goal.

"Anytime I can excite the crowd and lift my teammates I will definitely have a crack at it.”
