WEST Coast captain Darren Glass says the Eagles are prepared to use all three of their key defenders to nullify star Collingwood forward Travis Cloke on Saturday, with Will Schofield pushing to return from injury for the first qualifying final at the MCG.

Schofield, who has had a metal plate inserted in his fractured cheekbone, trained on Monday afternoon and completed a solid 20-minute running session alongside midfielder Matt Rosa at Patersons Stadium.

The 22-year-old, who missed West Coast's 95-point win over Adelaide in round 24, has played 20 games this season and emerged as an important member of the Eagles' backline.

He could replace young defender Ash Smith, who was substituted out of the game late in the second quarter against the Crows with a hamstring complaint.

"I think we've got a bit of depth and a bit of flexibility in our backline with Schofield if he comes back in," Glass said on Monday.

"Schofield, (Eric) Mackenzie and myself, we can all match up on [Cloke] at different times and he can see some different looks.

"He (Cloke) is an extremely talented player. He's got a booming left-foot kick and a great contested mark. I think he leads the AFL in that area. He's a really tough match-up."

Smith, 21, completed a short running session on Monday, leaving the track early. He, Schofield and Rosa, who is recovering from a knee injury and has not played since round 20, all face fitness tests this week.

"In terms of their availability this week, it’s too early to say today," coach John Worsfold said on Monday. "I would think that all three are confident of telling me that they’re fit and ready to go by Wednesday afternoon."

The coach denied that selecting all three returning players for the club's first final since 2007 would be too risky.

"There’s a lot to weigh up in that regard so if that’s what we selected it would have been done with full confidence," he said. "It’s hard to say how that’s going to pan out yet."
