POWER Community Limited, the community development arm of Port Adelaide Football Club, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Playford.

The new agreement will ensure that a range of community programs managed by Power Community Ltd will be delivered in Playford over the next three years. In particular, Power Community Ltd will support after school programs in Playford and work closely with the 52 sporting clubs in the region.

“Council and the Power share the same goals in promoting healthy lifestyle choices and developing teamwork, leadership and life skills in young people”, said Mayor Glenn Docherty. “This MOU will enable us to work in partnership to achieve those goals.”

The announcement was made at the Two Wells Hockey Club which has recently located to Smithfield Plains. Callum Hay, a Power rookie who grew up in the northern suburbs, attended the event and reminded club participants of the critical role that local clubs play in the development of people.

“It was only a few years ago that I was playing football at a local club and now I am part of a national competition. It would not have been possible without my local club, my junior coaches and the volunteers who turn up each week”.

Power Community Ltd will offer support to all clubs in the region, not just football clubs. Darren Adamson, Manager - Power Community Limited stated that “We have met with the Bulldogs and where possible we will work closely with them to support junior football in the region. We also believe that our support can be extended to other clubs who may be interested in our community programs”.

Power Community Ltd launched in 2010, currently employs five full-time staff and engages over 110,000 people across the state every year. The business offers a range of community programs with a focus on engagement, leadership and pathways to employment. Power footballers and athletes from other sports are involved in program delivery.
