THE WESTERN Bulldogs could take a vastly changed side to Darwin next week with a few veterans unlikely to make the long trip north.

Coach Rodney Eade flagged a few alterations to the team that demolished Carlton by 68 points on Sunday with Brad Johnson and Barry Hall chances to miss the clash with Port Adelaide.

Johnson re-injured his ankle just before half time and required a pain-killing injection to get through the game.

Hall, who had pre-season surgery on both ankles, also has concerns over one of his ankles.

"A six-day break, going to heat … we certainly wouldn't take any chances," Eade said.

"Johnno's pulled up a bit sore. He probably won't play next week. There's also a couple of other guys that if we were playing in Melbourne might play.

"Barry might be one of those. He was off at the end because his ankle was a bit sore.

"We'll just have to wait and see, and that's the reason why we tried to take some time off the clock to save the legs for next week."

Eade didn't play down the importance of next week's game despite the Power's lowly ladder stance, with a win to put the Dogs in the top four should Fremantle lose to Melbourne.

"We need to get over the line against a team that's going to have a bit, playing for a new coach," he said.

"Those teams tend to get up first up so we need to play our best side if we can."

Brennan Stack and Mitch Hahn (both hamstrings) will be unavailable but Tom Williams should be fine after cramping against the Blues.

Eade said Jason Akermanis, who is available for senior selection after his club-imposed exile, could make the trip.

"Akermanis is certainly in the mix, there's no doubt. He played alright today [in the VFL], apparently, him and Eagleton both played extremely well," he said.

"We pick guys on form and he's found some form."

Eade said he was pleased by the Dogs' "overall package" against the lacklustre Carlton side, and that it was their best four-quarter effort for the year that influenced their biggest win ever over the Blues.

"Against a team that was equal with us and a chance for a top-four spot, to be able to play like we did was really pleasing," he said.

"Today was a culmination of our effort over the past few weeks. Last week I was really pleased with our intensity and putting our bodies on the line and we didn't quite get over the line through a few mistakes.

"We obviously focused on some areas we needed to work on and that was good today."
