SKILFUL left-footer Brad McKenzie has re-signed with North Melbourne to the end of 2015 following his encouraging return to the Roos' senior team last Sunday against Fremantle.

Widely touted as one of the best kicks in the 2011 draft pool, McKenzie was North's first selection in that season's national draft, at pick No.18.

The South Australian has not had an easy transition into the AFL, having had to work overtime to build his strength and fitness.

McKenzie played two games as a substitute in his debut season last year, but was made to string together consistent form in the VFL this season before earning a recall against the Dockers.

Nonetheless, McKenzie, 20, told NMFC.com.au on Friday he had thoroughly enjoyed the start to his AFL career and had had no hesitation re-signing with the Roos.

"North Melbourne's just a great club with a great culture and the first 18 months I've spent here have been awesome," McKenzie said.

"I've got a really good bunch of teammates and I'm really confident we are heading in the right direction."

The former Sturt player said homesickness had not been an issue for him since joining North, especially now he is living with his brother and sister, and his parents have relocated to Victoria too.

McKenzie was impressive against Freo last Sunday.

After again starting as North's substitute, he had 12 possessions and five marks in just 35 minutes of game time and, remarkably, had more inside 50s than any other Roo (five). In difficult playing conditions, McKenzie's precise left foot also stood out.

McKenzie said he was now far better placed physically to make an impact at AFL level, having increased his playing weight from 79kg at the end of last season to 85kg.

"I feel a lot more comfortable when I play," he said.

After playing predominantly at half-back last year, McKenzie has moved onto the wing this season and is starting to flourish in his new role.

"It's been about getting to know the role and if you know how to play it, it works out really well for you," McKenzie said.

"Now that I've played there for the first half of this year I feel comfortable in it and know how to play it well."

McKenzie is the latest in a raft of re-signings at North this year that has included coach Brad Scott, co-vice-captains Jack Ziebell and Drew Petrie, Daniel Wells, Shaun Atley, Jamie Macmillan, Robbie Tarrant, Scott McMahon and Sam Wright.
