Unhappy Hawks, Shaw-Adams talks slow, Chapman almost a Bomber and Bernie’s tough call.

Hawks compo bluster

There’s nothing they can do about it, but Hawthorn is furious with the compensation it received for losing free agent Lance Franklin to the Swans.

Late on Friday, the League confirmed Hawthorn would, as expected, receive a first round draft pick as compensation for the superstar forward, which amounts to pick 19.

“We understand there are rules around free agency compensation, however we believe it is inequitable that compensation is linked to ladder position," Hawks chief executive Stuart Fox said in a statement on hawthornfc.com.au.

Fox might belatedly get his wish next season, with the AFL set to review free agency rules and considering the prospect that free agency compensation could be scrapped altogether.

The Hawks got nothing for Xavier Ellis who has moved to the Eagles.

Shaw-Adams stand-off

Heath Shaw may have signaled his intention to sign a $3.5 million five-year mega-deal with Greater Western Sydney, but Collingwood is playing hardball in negotiations.

Shaw remains contracted to the Magpies for another two-years, even though his time there is clearly over.

Saturday morning's News Limited reports backed up AFL.com.au’s reporting, saying a deal is a ‘long way off.’

The Pies want a straight swap, Shaw for Adams, while the Giants want picks included in any deal.

A string of other clubs are interested in Adams if this proposed deal falls through.

Chappy and Bomber to reunite

Paul Chapman’s move to Essendon isn’t finalised yet, with the veteran former Cat to start afresh as a delisted free agent.

According to Fairfax, the 32-year-old has agreed to incentive-based terms with the Bombers, meaning he can potentially earn a second season if he plays stays on the park and plays well.

The three-time Cats premiership player is set to reunite with his old coach Mark Thompson as the Bombers look for a fresh start in 2014.
