West Coast midfielder Matt Priddis headed to Karrinyup Shopping Centre on Thursday night to launch the 2011 Salvation Army Salvos’ School Challenge.
Priddis kicked off the Schools Challenge with a handball competition at Karrinyup Shopping Centre, where the lucky winner took home a brand new Apple iPad, thanks to program supporter Medibank Private.
The Salvos’ School Challenge is a program designed to encourage students to support their local area by fundraising at school or doorknocking in their community during the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock.
“I really hope I can make a difference in encouraging students to take this opportunity and get behind the Red Shield Doorknock Appeal to help the Salvos knock on as many doors as possible,” says Priddis.
“It’s great to be associated with such a worthy initiative and it’s something that has my strong support.”
In 2010, 30 schools from across WA participated in the Salvos’ School Challenge, raising more than $40,000 for the Red Shield Appeal.
This year, the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock will run on May 28 and 29, with funds raised going towards supporting marginalised members of the community.
