GREATER Western Sydney's preliminary final berth was just one of many significant landmarks for the club last year, but Leon Cameron and his players have their sights on creating more history in 2017.

The Giants won in Perth and Adelaide, and took the points off North Melbourne, Geelong and Richmond for the first time, and created a record-winning streak of six games on their way to a maiden finals appearance, where they eventually lost to the Western Bulldogs.

But speaking at the GWS season launch on Monday night, Cameron said his club can't be satisfied with the improvements they made last season, and although plenty are tipping them as the team to beat for this year's premiership, the coach was having none of it.

"2016 didn't end on a note that any of us wanted, but it's in the past now, and all of us are firmly focused on continuing to break new ground in 2017," he said.

"We made good gains last year but that assures us of nothing (going forward).

"Irrespective of pre-season forecasts, we know that every kick is earned, and nothing comes without hard work, and the desire to constantly improve."

Giants co-captain Phil Davis took to the stage and praised his teammates for the way they've attacked the 2017 pre-season, believing the ingredients are there for the club to build on last year's improvements.

"No doubt we were bitterly disappointed with how it ended last year," he said.

"We were one kick away from a Grand Final and all those possibilities, but the boys turned up to the first day of pre-season with a very driven attitude, it's exciting to think about where we can go.

"We have to improve a lot to just get back to where we were last year and hopefully we can take a couple of steps forward."
