MELBOURNE midfielder Angus Brayshaw should be ready to return to the VFL next weekend, after sustaining two concussions in three weeks last month.

The Demons gave Brayshaw, who suffered a pre-season knee injury and had been struggling for form since, an extended rest period to recover properly after his most recent knock in the VFL on May 14.

Demons elite performance manager Dave Misson said the 20-year-old would likely feature for the Casey Scorpions against North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium on June 18.

"'Gus' (Brayshaw) actually did a bit of training today (Thursday) without contact, and he'll do a bit of contact on Saturday and we expect him to play in the VFL next week,” Misson told the club's website.

There is still no specific timeline for Heritier Lumumba's return, although the defender is starting to ramp up his training.

Lumumba has also struggled with the lasting effects of concussion, and the Demons are treading a cautious path with him.

"'H' is slowly coming back into activity and he did a little bit of work with the boys today and he'll continue to do that, but it's probably hard to put a timeframe on him at the moment," Misson said.

Veteran defender Lynden Dunn will not be available for selection until after the Demons' bye in round 14 after injuring his hamstring in the VFL last weekend.

Dunn, who has played just four senior games in 2016, will be out of action for up to three weeks.

"He (Dunn) just tweaked a hammy late in the first quarter – not a bad one, but he'll probably [be available] after the bye," Misson said.

Dunn did some light touch work in the rehab group at training on Thursday, and will look to up his training over the next few weeks.

Christian Salem is still up to a month away from playing with a thyroid problem. The defender has not played since round eight, when the illness first flared.

"We're hoping that it's going to turn around over the next week or so," Misson said.

"He's probably three or four weeks away, I reckon."

As flagged by coach Paul Roos on Thursday, tough midfielder Jack Viney will face a fitness test to determine whether he is ready to return for Monday's Queen's Birthday clash against Collingwood.

The midfielder did some conditioning and light ball work, wearing a glove to protect the broken knucklebone he suffered against Port Adelaide just two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, rookie Joel Smith – the son of much-loved Demon forward Shaun – will miss up to six weeks with a groin injury.
