Eagle Josh Kennedy celebrates after kicking the match-winning goal against the Crows on Saturday night

WEST Coast has stolen a six-point victory over Adelaide after a last-minute goal from Josh Kennedy at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.

The Crows looked to have done enough in the final term when Jason Porplyzia's goal put the home side 13 points up.

But a goal to Bradd Dalziell drew the visitors level before Kennedy finished a West Coast counter attack with just 53 seconds left on the clock.

The win sees the Eagles' finals hopes kept alive, while it all but ends those of the Crows.

West Coast coach John Worsfold admitted he questioned whether his side could fight its way back into the match.

"Certainly I thought it was going to be hard to get back," he said.

"I was really pleased with the way we responded to what we had to do.

"Once we got behind, the challenge was to take some risks, but also play smart to create some scores. And then to defend that obviously."

Neither side managed to extend its lead beyond 16 points in the grinding contest – a margin achieved by Adelaide after it booted the first three goals of the game.

Shaun McKernan was brought in to combat Nic Naitanui's athleticism and put his own on full show with a strong contested mark 50m out, before wheeling around and converting.

Minutes later he was reported for a crude elbow to the head of Brad Sheppard that saw the Eagle temporarily subbed out of the game in the second term with concussion.

Crows substitute Matthew Jaensch was also called on early, after Aidan Riley appearing to badly injure his right ankle.

A miracle Josh Hill mid-air volley on the quarter-time siren capped an impressive four-goal fight back from the Eagles.

Consecutive majors to Tom Lynch and Josh Jenkins wrested the lead back for Adelaide and a third for the quarter to Patrick Dangerfield was enough to hold onto the narrow lead at the main break.

The class that saw Crow Brad Crouch secured a year before his legal AFL debut had him leading the possession-getters at the main break (finished with 26 touches), while Chris Masten ran rampant for the Eagles (finishing with 39 disposals).

A slippery ball combined with the pressure of the contest ensured an ugly game to watch as both sides routinely turned the ball over.

Will Schofield was allowed to run unchecked into an open goal to put the Eagles back in front and teammate Patrick McGinnity extended the lead to 11 points after winning a free kick for throwing his head into vacant space.

Goals to Porplyzia and Matthew Wright put the Crows back in the lead but still the Eagles wouldn't go away.

They somehow grabbed back momentum off the home team, before drawing level through Dalziell.

With less than a minute left in the game a counter attack saw the Eagles outnumber their Adelaide opponents in attack, with Kennedy delivering the match-winning blow.

Crows coach Brenton Sanderson was left to rue missed opportunities to "ice" the game late in the final quarter.

"We just needed a point, any score would have done, we could have looked for ways to ice the game and we didn't do it," Sanderson said.

"We missed too many shots in front of goal, nine goals, 15 [behinds] – we missed some absolute sodas tonight.

"In a close game you've got to go back and nail them."
