BRETT Deledio responded to a week of criticism in emphatic style, with the Tigers onballer attracting the maximum 10 votes in the AFL Coaches Association champion player award in Richmond’s away win over Port Adelaide.

Deledio’s best-afield 32-possession performance came after three barren weeks, and helped Richmond improve its record to 4-3 after a three-game losing streak threatened to undo much of its good work to start the season.

Deledio’s heavily-scrutinised teammate Jack Riewoldt was also in the votes after bagging five goals, including three in a scene-setting first term.

Adelaide powerhouse Patrick Dangerfield joined Essendon skipper Jobe Watson on 35 votes at the head of the leaderboard after earning eight in a landslide win over Greater Western Sydney.

Crows teammate Tom Lynch achieved a perfect 10 – one vote for each of his goals against the Giants. After kicking just 13 goals in his previous 15 games, Lynch became just the third Crow, along with charismatic spearheads Scott Hodges and Tony Modra, to post double figures.

Two players from non-traditional football backgrounds also prospered, with North Melbourne's Majak Daw receiving seven votes for his six-goal haul against the Western Bulldogs, and Brisbane Lion Pearce Hanley being adjudged best-on-ground against West Coast to move within nine votes of the leaders.

An anomaly emerged in the voting for the St Kilda-Carlton game.

To most observers, the contest was dominated by three players, each of them Saints: midfielder Jack Steven, skipper Nick Riewoldt and ruckman Ben McEvoy.

However, McEvoy received equal billing with Carlton superstar Chris Judd as third-best afield. One of the coaches completely ignored McEvoy, instead awarding three votes to Judd, whose direct opponent for much of the night was the equally-prolific Nick Dal Santo.
