GEELONG coach Chris Scott has dismissed reports that Mitch Clark's future at the Cats is at risk following an alleged rift with teammate Mitch Duncan, labelling such claims "an extraordinary stretch".

On Monday evening, Fairfax Media reported Clark made sexist remarks to Hawthorn-listed player Teia Miles in the VFL that were allegedly directed towards his sister, who is Duncan's long-term partner.

It was alleged Clark sledged Miles on multiple occasions during the Cats' clash against Box Hill at Simonds Stadium on June 19.

The report said Duncan later became aware of the comments, which prompted him to confront his Geelong teammate.

Scott confirmed the incident on Monday night, but strongly rejected claims the on-field sledge would have a bearing on Clark's playing future at the Cats.

"That's an extraordinary stretch to suggest that this would have any impact on his position on the list," Scott told Fox Footy.

"It would have almost no impact, that's the significance of the issue – it's very minor without being disrespectful to the people involved.

"In terms of player relations at Geelong, things are very healthy."

Scott said the incident was only brought to his attention – and that of the Cats' senior administration – on Monday given that the players involved had privately dealt with and resolved the matter.

The Cats' coach added Clark would not be sanctioned.

"As you would hope with these sort of things, when two guys have a bit of a disagreement, they sit down, talk about it, shake hands and move on, which is what happened four weeks ago," Scott said.

"We prefer it didn't happen but in the scheme of things, I think it's been handled well by the relevant people."

Clark and Duncan lined up in the same team that lost to the Sydney Swans by 38 points at Simonds Stadium last Friday night.

The game marked Clark's first senior appearance for the Cats this season following a four-match stint in the VFL in his comeback from persistent calf injuries.
