The SANFL and VFL are thrilled to announce AAMI as naming rights partner of the highly-anticipated State Game to be played on Saturday, April 6 as part of AFL Gather Round.

Expanding on AAMI’s existing partnerships with the AFL and SANFL, the return of one of the greatest Australian football traditions between the two arch rivals will be officially known as the AAMI State Game.

And in another coup for the contest – pitting the two old foes against each other for the first time in eight years – the AAMI State Game will be broadcast live in South Australia and Victoria by the Seven Network on 7mate and streamed live on 7plus nationally. Coverage will begin from 12:30pm ACDT (local time) / 1:00pm AEDT.

The match also will be live streamed nationally on the AFL Live Official App, AFL.com.au and SANFL Now.

SANFL CEO Darren Chandler said that thanks to the tremendous support of AAMI and broadcast partner Seven, the historic football tradition between SA and Victoria continues to thrive.

“Both the SANFL and VFL have a strong and rich football history and pride themselves on the quality, standard and success of their elite State League competitions,” Mr Chandler said.

“The AAMI State Game not only provides us with an opportunity to showcase our best players on a national stage, but ensures these players enjoy the ultimate honour of wearing the cherished State guernsey against the Big V at a senior level.”

AFL Head of State Leagues Jennie Loughnan said: “Having the AAMI State Game back on the calendar is really exciting for VFL and SANFL fans, players and clubs.

“The match gives the best VFL-listed players in the Smithy’s VFL the opportunity to pull on the famous ‘Big V’ jumper and showcase their talent on a weekend where all AFL clubs will be in South Australia for AFL Gather Round.

“I thank AAMI for their support of the AAMI State Game and their ongoing commitment to supporting Australian rules football. I would also like to acknowledge the SANFL and our member clubs for working with us to get the AAMI State Game back on the football calendar.”

AAMI Executive Manager CTP for New South Wales and South Australia Todd Finney said: “AAMI is pleased to work with the SANFL and AFL to bring this showcase event back and enable the very best of both State Leagues to represent SA and Victoria in this important sporting spectacle.

“We are committed to supporting community football, and what better time to elevate our local talent from SA and Victoria than during Gather Round when all eyes will be on this great game, seeing state league representative footy at its best.”

The AAMI State Game will be the first time since 2016 that the SANFL will tackle the VFL, reigniting a rivalry dating back to the late 1800s.

The West End State Team will host the Smithy’s VFL State Team at Glenelg’s Stratarama Stadium from 12:40pm on Saturday, April 6.

Entry to the match is just $15 for Adults and $10 for Concession, all under 18s receive free admission and do not require a ticket for entry.

The Smithy’s VFL State Team squad was announced last week, with the SANFL set to announce its state squad following this weekend’s season opening round of the Hostplus SANFL League.
