AFL General Manager Football Operations Mark Evans today said the AFL had levied a $2000 financial sanction on the Melbourne Football Club for the actions of its club runner during Sunday’s Round Eight match against Richmond at the MCG.

Mr Evans said the Melbourne club runner had become involved in a half-time melee of players and had made contact with an opposition player.

Under AFL regulations, a club runner is allowed to enter the field 'for the sole purpose of conferring briefly with the players of his club (and) .. must then immediately leave the playing surface', and may not interact with opposition players or the umpires at any time.
