Exciting draftee Daniel Curtin was among the Crows' best in their loss to Central District on Saturday, gathering 20 disposals as he moves closer to an AFL debut.

Dumped midfielder Lachie Sholl was busy with 21 disposals and one goal, with Luke Pedlar having 18 touches as he also looks for a senior recall.

Zac Taylor finished with 16 disposals as he searches for a debut, ruckman Kieran Strachan had 27 hitouts and 13 disposals, while big man Elliott Himmelberg also helped out in the ruck and had 12 disposals.

First-round draftee Charlie Edwards had 11 touches, with fellow 2023 inductee Oscar Ryan finishing with nine.

Veteran Jarryd Lyons did all he could except kick truly in his efforts to get Brisbane over the line in its one-point loss to North Melbourne on Sunday.

The 31-year-old racked up 37 disposals and 10 clearances, but was off-line in front of goal with 0.3.

Ruckman Henry Smith was also wayward with his finishing, kicking 1.4 from 22 disposals, eight marks and 17 hitouts.

Former Hawk Brandon Ryan was the Lions' most productive forward with three goals.

Deven Robertson kicked one goal from 33 touches and seven clearances, James Tunstill slotted one from 28 disposals and a team-high seven tackles, and Harry Sharp got one from 23 touches and 10 marks.

Darragh Joyce was strong in the air with 12 marks and 18 disposals, Darcy Fort had 28 hitouts and six clearances to go with 15 touches, Jaxon Prior was busy with 21 disposals, Shadeau Brain had 17 and Reece Torrent 15.

Other Lions in action included Kalin Lane (one goal), Logan Morris (10 disposals), James Madden (13 disposals), Luke Lloyd (seven touches) and category B rookie Bruce Reville (10 disposals).

Lachlan Cowan and Jaxon Binns could push for senior spots after performing well in Carlton's one-point loss to Collingwood on Sunday.

With Adam Saad and Mitch McGovern suffering hamstring injuries in the AFL on Saturday, spots are set to be available in the Blues' senior side.

Cowan had 22 disposals in the VFL on Sunday, while Binns gathered 22 and kicked a goal.

Lewis Young had 18 disposals and nine marks and Hudson O'Keeffe had a big game in the middle with 16 disposals, 33 hitouts and 10 clearances.

Ashton Moir applied plenty of pressure with seven disposals and six tackles, but only kicked 0.1.

Fin Macrae did his chances of a senior recall no harm with a strong performance in Collingwood's one-point win over Carlton on Sunday.

Macrae had a game-high 29 disposals to go with 10 tackles and six clearances.

Aiden Begg played a big role, finishing the game with 12 disposals, 11 hitouts, 10 tackles and seven clearances.

Ed Allan (23 disposals), Jack Bytel (21), Oleg Markov (19) and Lachie Sullivan (19) were also important.

Tew Jiath had 16 disposals and Josh Carmichael kicked three goals from his nine touches.

Forward Ash Johnson was unable to make the most of his chances, kicking 0.3 from nine disposals, while Joe Richards kicked one goal from nine touches.

Young key defender Lewis Hayes was solid in Essendon's 34-point loss to Footscray on Friday, taking 10 marks and finishing with 22 disposals.

At the other end of the ground the Bombers' top pick in the 2023 Draft, Nate Caddy, kicked one goal and missed a couple of other opportunities in his 13 touches, while Elijah Tsatas had 14 disposals and four clearances.

Veteran Dylan Shiel was strong with 18 disposals and six clearances in his first game back from injury.

Will Brodie was as busy as any senior Docker in Peel's win over East Perth on Saturday, gathering 23 disposals.

Rookie Ethan Stanley was the next most active with 20 touches, while Heath Chapman had the ball 16 times, helped with eight marks.

Shaun Mannagh and Mitch Hardie impressed in Geelong's 53-point win over the Northern Bullants on Sunday.

After failing to lock in a senior spot as a defender, Ben Long may get a chance at the other end of the ground after kicking five goals in Gold Coast's 43-point win over Box Hill.

The former Saint has been in and out of the senior side since crossing to the Suns, something teammate Brandon Ellis hasn't experienced until this season, and the dual premiership Tiger will be hoping his state league stay is short after racking up 25 disposals on Saturday.

Another cross-club player, former Crow Rory Atkins, was Gold Coast's biggest ballwinner, finishing with 37 disposals and a huge 20 marks, while ex-Blue Levi Casboult kicked three goals.

Ned Moyle did well in his one senior appearance so far this season and showed he's ready for a recall with 19 disposals, 43 hitouts, seven clearances and one goal, while rookie James Tsitas got plenty of ball, finishing with 27 touches and 11 marks.

Connor Budarick was busy with 19 disposals, nine marks and a team-high eight tackles, Alex Sexton had 23 touches and eight marks, Darcy Macpherson racked up 21 disposals and eight marks, and Joel Jeffrey ended the game with 25 touches and one goal.

Other senior Suns in action included Sean Lemmens (19 disposals), Caleb Graham (15 disposals, 11 marks), Hewago Oea (19 disposals), Jake Rogers (20 disposals, five clearances), Alex Davies (16 disposals) and Sam Day (10 disposals, one goal).

Veteran Callan Ward looks ready to come straight back into the Giants' senior side after making an impressive return from injury on Saturday.

Ward, who hasn't played since injuring his shoulder against Collingwood in Opening Round, picked up 33 disposals to go with 12 clearances in the club's 46-point win over Sandringham at Manuka Oval.

Despite expectations he would be sidelined for up to eight weeks, Ward has returned to action in just a month and will be a welcome boost to the senior side when he is recalled.

Josh Fahey (29) and Harry Rowston (28 and five clearances) also had plenty of the footy for the Giants as they chase more opportunities at senior level.

Darcy Jones was among the Giants' best, with the 2022 draftee closing in on an AFL debut after kicking two goals to go with 22 touches.

Rookie ruckman Hamish Free palmed off 19 hitouts and was supported at the bounces by 18-year-old Taylor Goad.

Port Adelaide was pipped at the post late by West Adelaide, going down by four points on Sunday afternoon.

The Power led by as much as 17 points midway through the final term but couldn't hold on against the fast-finishing Bloods, who kicked the final three goals of the game to run out winners.

Defender Trent McKenzie led the disposal count with 24 touches to go with his six marks, while midfielder Will Lorenz was also prominent with 19 disposals and seven tackles.

Jordon Sweet was in control around the ground finishing with 37 hitouts, an equal team-high two goals and 19 disposals, while fellow ruckman Dante Visentini offered a helping hand with 14 hitouts and five tackles.

It was a good day for the big men on Saturday as Samson Ryan and Sam Naismith starred for the Tigers in their 21-point loss to Werribee.

Ryan kicked four goals to put up his hand to fill the forward gap in Richmond's senior side, also finishing with 13 disposals seven marks and finding time on the ball for 17 hitouts.

On his comeback from injury, Dom Sheed was strong in the Eagles' four-point win over East Fremantle on Sunday, getting through the full match after playing managed minutes in the WAFL last week.

Sheed gathered a team-high 25 disposals and took seven marks in a performance that will see him in contention for a senior recall next week, with fellow veteran Andrew Gaff also getting plenty of the ball and finishing with 21 touches.

Rookie Zane Trew impressed with 24 disposals, six tackles and one goal, and 18-year-old forward Harvey Johnston kicked two goals from 13 touches.

Others to hit the scoreboard included Clay Hall (one goal, 15 disposals), Tyrell Dewar (one goal, 12 disposals) and Jai Culley (one goal, 11 disposals).

Liam Ryan barely troubled the scorers kicking just one behind, but got plenty of the ball with 19 disposals.

Jamaine Jones was busy with 24 touches and six tackles, while rookie Jordyn Baker was quiet gathering just eight disposals.
