The AFL advises the Match Review of last night’s round eight match between Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans has been completed. No charges were laid with three other matters that required explanation (A still shot on the Parker /Impey matter is attached).

Incidents assessed:

Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Gary Rohan and Hawthorn’s James Frawley from the second quarter of Friday’s match was reviewed. Frawley picks up the ball and looks to handball, Rohan comes from behind pinning the right arm of Frawley. As a consequence the ball spills free, and Frawley reaches out with his left arm to tap the ball out of the grasp of Cunningham. Rohan goes to ground first, dragging Frawley with him, who is able to break his fall with his left arm. It was the view of the MRO that the tackle was not unreasonable in the circumstances.

Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Jarrad McVeigh and Hawthorn’s Jaeger O’Meara from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match was reviewed. The ball is at a stoppage on the boundary line. O’Meara pushes McVeigh in the chest, McVeigh tries to push O’Meara back, with his arm sliding off O’Meara’s right arm/shoulder and making high contact with an open hand. It was the view of the MRO that there was insufficient force to constitute a charge.

Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Luke Parker and Hawthorn’s Jarman Impey from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match was reviewed. Impey approaches the Swans’ Harry Cunningham, who is being tackled by Ricky Henderson. Cunningham handballs through Impey’s legs in Parker’s direction. Impey turns around in a bid to take possession of the ball, while Parker simultaneously turns side-on and lowers his body in a bid also to take possession of the ball. Impey taps the ball away from Parker’s outstretched hands between his legs, and high contact is made to Impey by Parker. It was the view of the MRO that Parker was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball.
