PREMIERSHIP midfielder Brett Kirk will coach Sydney in the club's pre-season opener against North Melbourne on Sunday.

The Swans assistant will take over the reins for the first game as senior coach John Longmire takes a back seat in the opening two games of the JLT Community Series.

Long-time assistant Henry Playfair will also get his chance in the driver's seat when the Swans play the Giants in the second game of the pre-season.

Longmire will then return to the senior coach's chair for the final pre-season game when the Swans play St Kilda in Albury.

Kirk, who captained the Swans, is the club's forward line coach.

After retiring in 2010 he spent time in the media, before joining Fremantle as an assistant coach. He returned to the Swans in 2016.

North Melbourne assistant Leigh Tudor will coach the Kangaroos on Sunday with senior coach Brad Scott alongside him.
