FREMANTLE has looked outside the AFL industry to finalise its coaching team, appointing international rowing coach Tom Morris as the club's coaching high performance manager.

In a new position created to oversee the education and development of the club's coaching team, the Dockers cast a wide net that saw applicants considered from a variety of sports and business.

Morris was the senior coach of the Canadian women's squad that won silver at the Rio Olympics, and was previously national coach of the Australian rowing team.

The Dockers were also keen to secure an applicant with a psychology background, with Morris holding a Bachelor of Psychology from Murdoch University.

"We have done a lot of work on how best to ensure the ongoing growth, development and education of both our coaching team and playing group," general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.

"We believe that securing a person of Tom’s calibre and expertise at elite level high performance coaching will play an important role in achieving that aim.

"Tom has worked with coaches and sports science staff at a national level in Australia and Canada preparing athletes for Olympic competition, where coaching of the highest standard is paramount in achieving success.

"He will work closely with our coaching team to be high performance coaches in their individual areas."

Morris, who hails from Perth, said he was looking forward to further developing standards within the Dockers' coaching group to ensure "both athletes and coaches are fully supported in the pursuit of peak performance".

"I've been fortunate to work in high performance environments in both Australia and Canada and understand what it takes to succeed as a coach at the highest levels of sport," he said.

The Dockers have made further changes to their coaching team, with Marc Webb moving from midfield assistant to senior development coach.

David Hale has moved from development/specialist coach to forward line coach, replacing Mark Stone, who takes up the role of stoppages and training coordinator.

Anthony Rock has moved from development to midfield coach, with Brent Guerra shifted to development after one season as defensive assistant.
