Swans youngster Alex Johnson has been making a name for himself as a solid defensive post during the first seven games of his career, but it was his attacking exploits against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night that caught the eye of SwansTV.

With the Swans holding the ball in their attack halfway through the first quarter, Johnson followed his opponent, Mitch Clark, to the periphery of a boundary throw in contest inside the Swans forward 50.

When Clark advanced on the contest to find the football, Johnson held his position at the edge of the stoppage and eventually found himself on the receiving end of a stray handball from the Lions Matt Austin.

Johnson showed all the attacking instincts he developed during his time as a centre half-forward with the Oakleigh Chargers, as he managed to snap a goal from 40 metres out off a step and claim the SwansTV Play of the Day for round 11.

The goal was the first of Johnson's AFL career, and was the second in a string of 12 successive goals for the side which saw them go from two points up at the seven minute mark of the first quarter, to 78 points up on the verge of half time.

The first half of Saturday's game produced many highlights for the Swans, so we've grafted some of the best together in our new weekly 'Handpicked Highlights' segment.
