GEELONG has added another female to its board with the appointment of Kate Spargo as director.

The Cats’ president Colin Carter announced the decision in his president's address on Saturday night ahead of the clash against Gold Coast.

"Kate brings a wealth of experience to our board, along with a passion for the club," Carter said.

"Kate has a long history of success as a company director along with a career as a legal practitioner."

Spargo's appointment means the Cats now have two females on their eight-person board, with Diana Taylor being a member of the board since 2010.

Spargo, a Geelong supporter, is chairman of UGL Ltd and is on a number of boards including Sonic Healthcare, Fletcher Building, Adairs and Sigma Pharmaceuticals.

"I have long loved football, and after spending time in Geelong in 1971 it was quickly evident that the Cats were the club for me," Spargo said.

"Since then I have hardly missed watching a game and I am proud to support a club that displays such great values and ambition."

Meanwhile, the Cats became one of eight Victorian clubs to make an application for a Women's Team in next year's AFL competition, with eight clubs expected to be part of the new competition.

Four teams are expected from Victoria, with pioneering clubs Western Bulldogs and Melbourne front-runners to get two of the licences.

West Coast and Fremantle are in a fight to get the West Australian nod, while Adelaide will be South Australia's team, Greater Western Sydney is the NSW team and the Brisbane Lions the team from Queensland.
