GEELONG'S posse of young guns are set to step up in 2014, according to the Cats' premiership coach, Chris Scott.

Answering questions from fans on Twitter, Scott said George Horlin-Smith would be given "every chance to cement a spot in the midfield" in 2014.

Scott said he was "pretty confident" Josh Caddy, Billie Smedts, Mitch Duncan, and Cam Guthrie would all improve in 2014.

He also predicted Guthrie to play more of a midfield role while Jackson Thurlow was earmarked for defence.

It is likely to be a slightly different role for veteran Jimmy Bartel, as well, with Scott tipping the 2007 Brownlow medallist will spend more time up forward.
