SYDNEY Swans midfielders Daniel Hannebery and Josh Kennedy have put in eye-catching performances in the club’s three-kilometre time trial on Monday.

Hannebery, the 2010 NAB AFL Rising Star, finished second to South African-born rookie Eugene Kruger, with former Hawk Kennedy slashing eight seconds off his own personal-best time over the distance.

Hannebery’s effort was slightly slower than his pre-Christmas trial time, but he was happy with the overall performance of the group.

“We haven’t done a lot of specific endurance running in the past few weeks. There has been a lot more footy and game-style running,’’ Hannebery told sydneyswans.com.au.

“So to see most of the boys run well today and come home close to their personal best shows we are still really fit.

“We are where we want to be at this time of year and now we can’t wait to start playing footy with the pre-season cup only three weeks away.”

Kennedy impressed in his first season with the club since crossing from Hawthorn and is reported to have significantly improved his endurance running ahead of the 2011 campaign.

Alex Johnson, the club’s third-round selection at the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, also rated a special mention for his personal best time over the distance.

“I took nine seconds off my pre-Christmas time so I’m very happy,’’ Johnson said.

The Swans’ pre-season focus now turns to match fitness with the club’s first intra-club practice match to be held at Lakeside Oval near the SCG on February 11.
