THE ONGOING concussion issues facing Kade Kolodjashnij have brother Jake concerned for his twin's health.

The Gold Coast defender started the year positively, playing the first four games of the season before being dropped from the senior side and receiving his latest head knock in a NEAFL match back in April.

Kade was a withdrawal from a state league clash on the weekend.

The 22-year-old missed the final 10 rounds of last season following a triple dose of clashes left him struggling for focus and clear vision.

Speaking on RSN radio on Tuesday morning, Geelong's Jake Kolodjashnij said he was worried by the number of head knocks his brother had received.

Kade has played only 74 matches since being taken with pick five in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

"It's been an up and down ride for Kade because he was going really well in the early stages (of his AFL career), and then he had some minor hits, and because of his (injury) history, it's really upsetting his head," Jake Kolodjashnij said.

"He got ruled out last week when he was going to play NEAFL, and he's about to see a specialist in Melbourne today, so I'm going to catch up with him to see where he's at with his head.

"Fingers crossed it all goes well for him, but there might be some conversations on where he's at (with his concussions)."

Jake believed the combative nature of the game was playing on his Kade's mind every time he took to the field, but wearing a helmet had eased those concerns.

"I think (it's affecting his confidence) to be honest, because it's a pretty serious conversation and you don't want to muck around with the head," Jake said.

"I think the helmet did help when he did come back with working into the contest and going back with the flight.

"Hopefully he can come back next year after a pretty tough situation."
