MELBOURNE veteran Bernie Vince is "disappointed" in his actions after he was suspended for striking for the third time in the past two years.

Vince was banned for two weeks by the Match Review Panel on Monday for striking Adelaide's Eddie Betts during Saturday night's loss to the Crows in Darwin.

The 31-year-old was also fined $1000 for making forceful front-on contact on Richard Douglas and will sit out games against Port Adelaide and North Melbourne.

"I’m a bit disappointed with my actions because I'm obviously missing a couple of weeks," Vince told Nova FM.

"I actually can't remember the incident. I didn't think there was much in it.

"I went to fend off Eddie Betts and got him with my forearm, which is high and automatically intentional if you use your forearm or your elbow."

Vince said he apologised to his teammates during the week, with co-captain Nathan Jones saying the former Crow needed to "smarten himself up" after the MRP handed out its verdict.

"The coach (Simon Goodwin) certainly wasn't happy and the other leaders weren't happy, especially with all our injuries at the moment, we’ve got a few back this week (Dom Tyson, Jack Watts and Jack Viney)," he said.

"When you are sitting on the sidelines, you are no help."

Vince admitted the Demons had stepped over the line far too often this season.

They are the least disciplined team in the AFL this season with a total of 14 games lost to suspension.

"We haven’t drawn a line in the sand or spoken about [being more physical]," Vince said.

"We want to be a team that is hard to play against - that physicality and that contested style of footy is what we are good at.

"Certainly you don't want to go over the line, a lot of guys have been suspended this year, it's finding that line without going over it."
