INJURY-PRONE St Kilda forward Paddy McCartin will not play football at any level for a second straight weekend as he deals with concussion.

McCartin, 21, was due to be tested this week.

He suffered his sixth concussion since 2014 a fortnight ago in the VFL.

St Kilda football manager Jamie Cox told saints.com.au McCartin took part in Thursday's main training session.

"The doctors are really happy with how Paddy is recovering. He has been training well, is feeling fine physically and isn't displaying any symptoms," Cox said.

"However, according to the testing he is still just a fraction off 100 per cent.

"Paddy trained strongly today (Thursday) and will continue to train over the weekend with an eye of pushing for selection next week."

McCartin was concussed three times last year and suffered a fractured collarbone in the penultimate week of the home and away season, against Richmond.

Separate hamstring and knee niggles have kept the No.1 pick from the 2014 NAB AFL Draft to just five games for five goals this season, while form has also been an issue at times.

There has also troubles with fitting him in the same team alongside fellow marking targets Nick Riewoldt, Josh Bruce and Tim Membrey.

McCartin has played 22 matches in his career.
