WHEN the NAB AFL Draft rolls around in November, John Butcher’s could be the name on everyone’s lips, but the 18-year-old isn’t about to buy in to any early hype.

Already the 197cm key forward has been talked up along with Vic Metro's Tom Scully, who racked up a game-high 33 disposals against Butcher’s Vic Country on Sunday.

The current general consensus among recruiters is that Scully has the edge as No.1 pick, with Butcher widely rated No.2.

Butcher kicked three goals and helped Vic Country to a fine 16-point win at Skilled Stadium, but is not worrying about his November prospects yet.

"Whatever happens, happens," Butcher told afl.com.au.

“I don't pay too much notice, because there are four more games in the championships and other people can bob up and injuries can derail a lot of things. There is a lot of water to go under the bridge before draft day.”
